About Us:
Debra S. Nelson, Psy.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
I understand that your life is complex and there are various demands and expectations at different life stages that can be impacted by situational and mental health struggles. It's important to be mindful of the interaction between those demands and your stage of life.
My experiences are diverse. I have worked for over twenty years with
individuals, couples, and groups across the lifespan and socioeconomic spectrum by providing a range of clinical services including assessment, consultation, and psychotherapy. I know how challenging asking for help can be and I strive to work collaboratively with clients, both validating your feelings and experiences while helping you to uncover patterns and obstacles that are holding you back from reaching your goals.
I seek to provide treatment in an integrative way, utilizing Solution-Focused, Interpersonal, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Using these modalities we will focus not just on difficulties, but on areas of strength and positive coping mechanisms. As part of my work, I am always happy to collaborate with medical doctors, attorneys, in-home therapeutic teams, and school systems to ensure that all providers working with you or your family are in sync with the goals you are striving to achieve.
I received my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University New England and completed a pre-doctoral APA accredited clinical internship at The Village for Children and Families in Hartford, CT. I completed my post-doctoral work at Wheeler Clinic, Inc. I am a member of the American Psychological Association. In my free time I love spending time with my family, cooking, photography, and travel.

What Brownstone means to us...
As lifelong Connecticut residents, the history and community within CT is
important to us. Brownstone quarries were once extensively located along the
banks of the Connecticut River, including nearby Portland. Brownstones were
used as the foundation of many community buildings, including many of the
buildings on the Wesleyan Campus, and our own office building! We liked the
imagery and metaphor of the solid foundation of the brownstone and how we hope to be an important part of the community with our work helping to build stronger foundations of strength and support in our client's lives.
